The ancient stone carving site is located in Muong Hoa Valley on the boundaries of Muong Hoa commune and a portion of Ta Van commune. With an area of about eight square kilometers strewn among the terraced fields of Muong Hoa valley, this is a National Historical - Cultural Relic designated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. Since 1925, the rocky shore has been found and investigated by Victor Goloubev, a notable French-Russian Indochina scientist.
According to some scientists, the carvings on the stones are an ancient sort of writing, therefore this is a massive book storing the ancients' knowledge and concepts about nature, documenting daily life, community activities, and so on. However, the true meaning of the characters on the stone remains a mystery to this day.
